How to take the perfect selfie
Your selfie hasn’t hit the jackpot yet on social media? Don’t worry, it’s actually scientific. A new study by a Stanford IT grad lays out the seven keys to selfie success.
The ladies have it
Young Andrej Karpathy is categorical: the biggest secret to a blockbuster selfie is being a woman. You want proof? The 100 most popular self-portraits on social media were all of women.
Chop off your (fore)head
The researcher found that selfies with the most “likes” were the ones with their foreheads cropped out. Up your chances of staying in the fray by keeping it out of the frame.
Get a little closer…
More specifically, do a close-up of your head and put it in the top third of the photo.
Blow it out…
Overexpose the shot to give your face a more even complexion than the best foundation could claim.
Snub the #nofilter
Which may not last the year. The study found fans preferred selfies processed with an Instagram filter that makes it look like you live in a magical color bubble.
Among the most “celebrated” selfies, the vast majority had long hair, proving that even if the jetset is getting hooked on boyish coifs, social media didn’t get the memo.
Don’t get rough around the edges
Add a thin white or colored border all around the shot. It’s one small step for you, one giant leap for your inner starlet. These are the selfies that will take the most cake on the internet.
