6 Secrets to Surviving Mid-Season in Style
The weather can’t seem to make its mind up, and you have no clue what to wear. Try these simple tips for size.
Dust off that jacket
All out of ideas for what to wear at this time of year? Then it’s time to play your joker: a good jacket keeps you covered whatever the weather. It’s not quite cold enough to bundle up in endless layers, but in the meantime you can toss this piece over a wool top or a blouse while you get to grips with the fluctuating temperatures outside.
Top tip: the right jacket can even help you get a few extra weeks out of your summer wardrobe: wear it over a sun dress to keep out chills.
Sheer good looks
Want to keep your legs on show without feeling the cold? Lucky for you, pantyhose are on trend this season. Fishnets are a fun and funky compromise between fashion and function. More good news for this season: stockings stay on show through peep-toe pumps – a concession to changeable weather, sure, but a happy union all the same.
When it comes to sheer good looks, georgette silk is just the thing to elegantly drape over arms we prefer not to leave bare.
Nothing to scarf at
A good old scarf is the ultimate mid-season accessory. No need to bundle up like a snowman – simply wrap a scarf around your neck and you’re set for whatever fall can throw at you: nippy mornings, chilly evenings, a sweltering office or a draft at your desk… even those hot (and cold) flashes on public transportation, and faltering fall sunshine that’s scorching one minute, freezing the next. Snuggle into a cozy cashmere, sheepskin or rabbit fur scarf.
Feel for fabrics and furs
Unlike us, dresses and skirts stay the same shape all year round! The only change from season to season is the fabric. Mid-season we like to cozy up to lambskin, velvet or wool. We also love this fall twist on the summer’s trademark denim: a fur coat worn over a denim dress.
Brighten up dull days
Don’t let the gloomy weather get you down. Brighten up your winter wardrobe with splashes of color to keep gray at bay a little while longer. Take a stand in red head-to-toe or flaunt a silk blouse in cheery curry yellow or electric blue.
Bare legged or toes on show?
Mid-season it all comes down to a simple rule: if you’re going bare legged, wear closed shoes. If you’re covering up your legs, keep your toes on show. Pick one or the other to strike the perfect balance and you’ll keep the temperature just right. So, opt for low boots, ballerina flats or lace-up sneakers with your skirts and dresses. And if you’re wearing pants, pair them with open-toe pumps or high-heeled sandals.
